FOURTEEN DROPS

Establishing a high street hot spot

Located in the beautiful North Yorkshire market town of Yarm, Fourteen Drops is a family-run wine bar, charcuterie and bottle shop. Founded by sommelier Fiona McLain, the emphasis is on simplicity and quality, with fresh produce and great wines from a range of unusual producers and makers.

Right from the start we worked closely together to create a name, identity and tone of voice that would capture this ethos, express the family personality, and reflect the sophisticated charm of its location.

A name with a tale
As a family venture, an old family phrase (usually uttered after a bottle or two) led us to the perfect name — according to family legend, there are always fourteen drops left in a bottle of wine after it’s ‘finished’…

The symbol we created was both a beautifully simple representation of the name and a nod to the focus on natural and organic wines that sits at the heart of the brand’s ethos.

Sippers and gulpers
In keeping with the name and ethos, other family sayings, witticisms and phrases formed the basis of a relaxed, conversational and playful language used throughout the bar and shop.

The visual language draws on a paired-back approach combined with natural materials and a touch of copper, which has been applied across interiors, signage, business cards, menus, packaging, labels and gift vouchers.

“We all love the identity and would like to say a big thank you for your hard work. It’s perfect!”
